Zakai

The founding member of this family or clan was Hakeem Mohammad Masiha. He was one of the royal physicians for the  Iranian ruler Thamasp (1524-1576) of the Safavid dynasty. When the Mughal king, “Humayun” was defeated by Sher Shah Suri, and took exile with Shah Thamasup of Iran, Hakeem Muhammad Masiha was appointed his physician. When Humayun re-conquered Delhi in 1555 and came back to India, he requested the Shah of Iran to send his physician to Delhi.  Hakeem Muhammad Masiha traveled to Delhi and settled there permanently. His descendants included the following famous people who established a name in the field of Hikmat (science of eastern medicine) and were scholars.

Hakeem Khaqan Baqa Khan was a famous physician of his time and wrote a book of medicine called “Majmooa-e-Baqai” (Baqai Collection). Hakeem Zakaullah Khan was the royal physician for the Mughal ruler Shah Alam II. He also wrote a book of medicine called “Qarabadeen Zakai” which was read and referenced by many physicians of his time. Hakeem Imamuddin was a famous Physician and scholar. He was a consultant to the Mughal ruler and a teacher. His list of students included famous personalities like Sir Sayed Ahmed Khan, Maulana Mohammad Qasim, and Deputy Nazir Ahmed. Shah Sayed Abdul Lateef, also called “Imam Tabarre”, was a religious scholar and a spiritual leader of his time. His shrine is in Rawalpindi, Pakistan, and is still visited by people
